that's when the temperatures come on up. we have a light wind out there today. not that blustery northwest wind like we saw yesterday but you want to break out the winter clothes. exercising, heading out to watch college football, just make the plans inside. thr we have plenty of sunshine but it'll be going away. maybe a wintry mix coming up. >> thank you, lauryn. to a developing story we just got into the newsroom. a maryland state trooper is in the hospital after being hit by a drunk driver. state police say the crash happened around 1:30 this morning. on the outer loop of the beltway near joint base andrews. trooper ortiz was helping a stopped car when he was hit by gresham of atlanta. ortiz did have his emergency lights on. gresham is charged with dui. right now, we are ki

learning new details about brief conversations he had with russian president vladimir putin. both have been in vietnam attending the apec summit there. they met on the sidelines. president trump says he pressed him about russian interference in the 2016 election. the president told reporters on air force one that putin denied it. the president says that he believes russia's leader. no formal meeting happened between the two, but trump is now attending a state dinner in the vietnamese capital. awful discovery in wheaton has police looking for more clues this morning. a woman's body was found near a dumpster off university boulevard. news 4's jackie benson explains how this could be connected to a missing person's case. >> reporter: the call came into montgomery county police around 3:30 p.m. someone found a woman's body next to this dumpster behind the cvs store on university boulevard in wheaton. >> right now, detectives are actively working this

scene. it's very -- a fluid situation, in the initial phases. so detectives are gathering as much evidence as possible, trying to interview anybody who may have been a witness to, you know, when the victim was found. right now, it's very active and just in the initial phases. >> reporter: the woman's body was found in a busy area, lots of foot traffic day and night. people often cut through here to get to an apartment complex nearby. the disturbing discovery comes as police search for a 21-year-old woman who disappeared two blocks away. she was last seen leaving her job at the kfc on university boulevard just after midnight on monday. >> we did have a missing person reported to us on tuesday. given the proximity she was last seen, a couple blocks from here, detectives are certainly looking into the possibility. we have not had a chance to confirm the identity of the victim yet. >> reporter: police tell us an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and

4. on this vetd rerans day, we news 4 want to thank all military veterans for their service. vice president mike pence will pay his respects later this morning at 11:00. he'll participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier. a ceremony will follow at the arlington national cemetery amphitheater. veterans day ceremonies will take part all across our area today, one at the falls church community center at 11:00 this morning. another ceremony will happen a few hours later at the mount vernon recreation center at alexandria at 1:00. running one marathon is a feat for most

i can't imagine. imagine running more than two dozen of this. >> a retired marine sergeant from northern virginia is about to finish this remarkable goal of 31 marathons in 31 days. news 4's derrick ward is live on the national mall for the woundwound ed warrior's last few miles. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that's what this crowd is all about on the grounds of the lincoln memorial. he's actually making the circuit now. he'll run loops around the reflecting pool and this area, the ekwquivalent of a marathon. looe here's a video of rob jones. he lost both legs to an i.e.d. in afghanistan a few years ago. didn't slow him down. may have sped him up. 2014, he was the first double amputee to run cross country, from maine to california. now, he's participating in his 31st marathon in his 31st city in 31 days. he's 32 years old. he says after the incint

afghanistan, he began to think about ways to bring attention to the plight of veterans. just to be encouraging. that's what this effort is all about. we talked to him earlier. take a listen. this is what he had to say. >> i'm running 31 marathons in 31 days because i'm trying to get a story out there about a veteran that went to afghanistan and had a traumatic experience, lost both of my legs, but i was still able to come home and find my new way that i was going to contribute to my country and stay in the fight. >> reporter: we talked to other runners who say they've met him before and say he's been an encouragement. what an appropriate day for this to happen here in washington, d.c. he said he did feel the significan significance, running around the icons and the symbols of what this nation stands for. he's also doing it for some causes. coalition that helped him out after his incident in afghanistan.

the tunnel to towers foundation. all good causes and bring attention and encouragement to this cause on veterans day. live on the grounds of the lincoln memorial, back to you. >> we thank sergeant jones for his service and sacrifice. >> unbelievable story. a maryland pilot and his two young sons are okay after their small plane crashed. chopper 4 over the crash scene near i-97 on friday afternoon. the pilot, christopher curry, says he saw smoke and tried to return to tipton airfield. he hit a light pole and guardrail but managed to miss cars on the road. investigators are working to learn why that plane went down. a local family is demanding changes inside one maryland school district after they say their child was abused by a former teacher aide. they say bell sexually abused boys. he was hiv positive at

one of the victim's families was asking for $1 million in compensation from the school district. they also want better training and stronger background checks. a mom who spoke with us asked us to distort her voice to protect her son. >> i hope my family and i will be able to work with the charles county school system and save others from going through this situation or something similar. >> bell is facing hundreds of state and federal charges. he pleaded not guilty to federal child porn charges this week. charles county schools declined to comment because officials have not yet received the letter about the charges. all right. so catharsis on the mall continues today. >> sure does. it brings art and activism to the national mall. it is happening near

welcome back. alabama senate candidate roy moore is scheduled to attend a veterans day event today. it would be his first public appearance following a bombshell report in the "washington post" alleging sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old girl in 1979. and that he pursued three other teenagers when he was in his 30s. the woman behind the "washington post" report is stand big her story, while many prominent republicans are urging moore to step aside. in a radio interview on friday, moore spoke out and fought back. >> allegation of sexual misconduct by her was completely f

motivated and brought only to stop a successful campaign. that's what they're doing. >> there's also an avalanche of backlash from moore's party. senator mccain and mitt romney calling moore unfit for office, coming weeks before a critical election that could impact the senate majority. 9:17. she thought she'd be pampered at the salon but ended up in a hospital. >> a maryland woman says her eyes were partially glued shut after a treatment. now, she's struggling to pay her medical bills. she spoke to news 4's shomari stone in a story you'll see only on news 4. >> i'm really sad about the whole situation. >> reporter: monica reed tells me her vision is blurry after a trip to a salon to get eyelash extensions. >> i was afraid i was going to lose my sight. so i'm still traumatized by it. >> reporter: she drove to sky nails and spa in crosston, maryland, months ago. >> i was treating myse.

beautician painfully damaged her eyes and didn't have an emergency kit to treat her. >> when you have to take part of your eyelid down, she took the tape off, i blinked and the edges of my eyelashes were glued shut. >> she had to use her finger to force her eyes open. she drove to a hospital and doctors flushed out her eyes. her medical bills came to more than $1700. we reached out to sky nails and spa directly. an attorney representing the salon says he is reviewing the case and won't connect. -- comment. in an e-mail to monica, they offered for $84 for out of pocket costs and $1,000 for pain and suffering. they're working with monica and attorneys to resolve the concerns. monica is concerned because in the state of maryland, beauticians are not required to have a license to provide eyelash extensions. >> there should be a warning or

>> our director is like, let's move on. i was off yesterday. it was actually my sunday. i was sitting around the house and i was like, man, did i decorate for christmas? i'm with you, adam. it feels like it out there. all right. we've got a weather alert this morning because it's so chilly out there. temperatures were in the teens in some spots. when we get to this afternoon, temperatures are still going to be 20 degrees below normal. think about it, temperatures for this time of year, they should be around 60 degrees. again, as adam pointed out, we're only at november 11th. thanks to all the veterans out there. light rain possible tomorrow night with pockets of freezing rain. isolated pockets in the sheltered valleys and higher elevations. i don't believe it'll be a problem monday morning. something we have to watch tomorrow. we'll have to watch tomorrow night. a freeze warning is in effect until 10:00 a.m. not until then does the
